Fires of Love

Marcus Claridge (percussion)

Fires of Love is a Scottish quartet specialising in Renaissance and early Baroque chamber music. Fires was formed in 1998 and has performed all over Scotland in venues including the Queen's Hall in Edinburgh, the Tall Ship in Glasgow harbour, and the inside of a brick kiln. They have also played for the Oundle, Wirral and Leicester festivals. They focus on lute and guitar song, set among instrumental ensembles and solos, including familiar masterpieces and new discoveries. Their resources include lutes, guitars, archlute, theorbo, woodwind, soprano and baritone voices, and percussion.

The first Fires of Love CD featured music of the Spanish Reconquest, and in 2008 they released their second disc, of 16th century Parisian music from the circle of Adrian Le Roy. The CD has won 4-star reviews from the Financial Times, the Scotsman and Goldberg music magazine, and several radio playings.
