The Scottish Clarinet Quartet are Andrew Langford, Nicola Long, Rebecca Smith and Alex South. They met whilst students of John Cushing at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and are now individually involved in a diverse range of musical roles, from solo and freelance work to research into contemporary performance and teaching at all levels. Since 2002, SCQ has enjoyed acclaim and success as Scotland's foremost clarinet quartet, performing at venues across the UK from Cambridge to Campbeltown, and at festivals including the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival and the Sonic Fusion Festival. Concerts are frequently combined with enthusiastically-led workshops in local schools. SCQ also has a strong focus on commissioning and performing new music, whilst exploring the kaleidoscopic soundworld offered by the extended clarinet family. This activity has been supported by grants from the Scottish Arts Council, the Hope Scott Trust, the RVW Trust, the PRS Foundation and the Britten-Pears Foundation.
Nicola Long is replaced in this concert by Sally Day. (Nicola is performing the Copland Concerto with Auricle Ensemble on the 4th October).
